Start with what the source contains

Video quality is more than a number beside a download button. ClipHarbor retrieves an existing MP4 source; it does not recreate the camera recording, enhance missing detail or re-encode every post into a new set of sizes. Its main purpose is to find a source without a platform watermark when available. Sources explicitly labeled as watermarked are excluded, but that is not the same as checking every frame for creator logos or marks added during editing. Begin with a video you own or are authorized to save.

The original capture, edits, upload processing and source delivery all affect the result. A sharp original may still be compressed by a social platform, while a low-light or out-of-focus recording remains limited even at a large resolution. If you are the creator and need an editing master, your original camera or project export is often the better starting point. A downloaded social-platform copy can be useful, but it should not be mistaken for a lossless archive of the original production.

What MP4 does and does not mean

MP4 describes a media container. It can hold video and audio, but the extension alone does not describe the codec, bitrate, orientation, detail or absence of a watermark. ClipHarbor currently selects a combined MP4 source containing both video and audio. It does not offer a separate MP3 export. A file that looks like an ordinary video in one browser may still depend on codec support in another player or editor, so check actual playback before building a workflow around it.

Do not rename a different file to end in .mp4 and assume it has been converted. Similarly, changing .mp4 to .mp3 does not extract a music track. Converting media requires a separate processing step and may affect quality or file size. ClipHarbor does not silently perform that step. Keeping the download workflow focused on an existing combined MP4 also avoids promising a format or quality that the source never provided in the first place.

How Best available works

Best available asks the extractor for the best suitable single MP4 source after the service's filters are applied. Those filters require video and audio and exclude formats labeled as watermarked. The result must also complete within the processing limit and remain within 100 MiB. This is an availability-based choice, not a guarantee that every public post has a downloadable unmarked source or that the selected file matches the creator's original export.

This option is useful when you want the highest suitable version the source can currently provide and do not need a particular height cap. Check the reported dimensions and play the finished file. If the source changes later, a repeated request may not return an identical file or set of options. Keep a completed local copy for your authorized use rather than treating a temporary download link as a permanent reference. The source URL and permission record are better companions to an archive.

Understand the numbered height caps

The 1080p, 720p and 480p choices currently limit source height in pixels. They do not ask the server to generate a fresh export at exactly that size. A source smaller than the cap may be selected. If no suitable combined MP4 fits the cap, the request may fail. The backend does not upscale a smaller source to make the label look satisfied, and it does not silently recompress a larger source just because you selected a lower number.

This can explain why Best available works while a lower numbered option does not. It can also explain why choosing 1080p produces a lower-height file: that may be the best eligible source. The reported result reflects the retrieved source rather than your requested ceiling. If exact output dimensions are required for a separate publishing project, use an editing workflow you control after obtaining the appropriate rights and source file. Keep the unmodified download as a reference when testing any later conversion.

Portrait video and the meaning of HD

A typical portrait source might be 720 pixels wide and 1280 pixels high. Because ClipHarbor currently reports height, the result can show 1280p. That does not mean it is a landscape 1080p video or that it has the same frame layout as 1920 by 1080. Comparing one dimension without considering orientation can make a phone video sound better or worse than it is. View it at an appropriate display size and check the actual dimensions when they matter.

For the same reason, a height cap may be more restrictive for a tall portrait clip than you first expect. Selecting 720p can exclude a 720-wide portrait source whose height is 1280. The interface explains the current behavior rather than calling every source HD. Width, height and orientation are useful facts; a broad quality label is only a shortcut. Watermark availability is a separate property and should not be inferred from pixel dimensions, file size or the word MP4.

Choose a sensible size for your purpose

File size depends on duration and bitrate as well as dimensions. A short, detailed clip can use more storage than a longer, heavily compressed one. A lower-resolution source is not always smaller in every case. ClipHarbor rejects files above 100 MiB and stops processing after two minutes, so a nominally available source can still be unsuitable for the current service. It does not split large videos or promise that a lower menu choice will always get under the limit.

For casual authorized offline viewing, pick an available source that plays well on your device and fits your storage and data needs. For editing, preserve the best original you can legitimately obtain and avoid repeated lossy conversions. Check audio, orientation and the full ending before sharing or archiving a copy. If no suitable result is available, use the troubleshooting guide to distinguish a height-cap mismatch from a source or size failure instead of assuming that higher numbers solve every problem.

Questions about this guide

Does 1080p upscale my video?

No. The option caps source height at 1080 pixels. It does not create detail or a new encoding.

Why can a portrait video say 1280p?

The current result uses source height. A 720-wide, 1280-high portrait source reports 1280p, not a landscape HD guarantee.

Does MP4 mean watermark-free?

No. Container, dimensions and watermark availability are separate properties.
